  1.   With most of the cable companies
  2. scrambling their signals on most all
  3. new and some old channels I thought I'd
  4. update and revise my first version
  5. (1.0) of Pay Tv Decoder Plans.
  6.   Due to different scrambling systems,
  7. you might find it neccesary to change
  8. the range and values of the variable
  9. capacitator.  I've also added a
  10. wiring diagram to help you with design-
  11. ing the circut.  If you have any
  12. questions just leave a message on the
  13. board listed at the end of the article.

  44. 12" - RG59 coaxial cable

  54. 1.  Bare a length of No. 12 gauge solid
  55.  
  56. copper wire and twist around a 3/8"
  57.  
  58. nail or rod to form a coil of 9 turns.

  60. Elongate coil to a length of 1 1/2"

  62. inches and form right angle bends on
  63.  
  64. each end.

  68. 2.  Solder the varible capacitor to
  69.  
  70. the coil. It doesn't matter where you
  71.  
  72. solder it, it still does the same job.

  74. The best place for it is in the center
  75.  
  76. with the adjustment screw facing upward

  80. Note: When it comes time to place coil
  81.  
  82. in box, the coil must be insulated from
  83.  
  84. grounding.  This can be done by crazy-
  85.  
  86. glueing a piece of rubber to the bottom
  87.  
  88. of the box, and securing the coil to it.

  92. 3.  Tap coil at points 2 1/2 turns from
  93.  
  94. ends of coil and solder to coaxial
  95.  
  96. chassis connectors, bringing tap leads
  97.  
  98. through holes in chassis box.  Use as
  99.  
  100. little wire as possible.

  104. 4.  Solder resistor to center of coil
  105.  
  106. and ground other end of resistor to
  107.  
  108. chassis box, using solder lug and small
  109.  
  110. screw.

  135. 5.  Drill a 1/2" diameter hold in mini-
  136.  
  137. box cover to permit adjustment of the
  138.  
  139. variable capacitor from the outside.
  140.  
  141. Inspect the device for defects in
  142.  
  143. workmanship and place cover on mini-
  144.  
  145. box.  Tighten securely.
  146.

  149. 6.  Place device in line with existing
  150. cable on either side of the coverter
  151. box and connect to television set with
  152. the short piece of RG59 coaxial cable.
  153. Set television set to HBO channel.
  154.  
  155. 7.  Using a plastic screwdriver (non-
  156. metallic), adjust the varible capacitor
  157. until picture tunes in.  Sit back,
  158. relax, and enjoy!!!!
